What does an OEM toy order include?

OEM toys are made or adapted to a buyer's agreed specification. The scope may be a logo on an existing item, a custom retail box, a color change or a product revision. A completely new design needs a separate feasibility and tooling discussion. Private label describes how the product is sold under your brand; it does not by itself establish what development work is included.

Toy development: agree on five approval gates

1. Define the brief. Send item links or drawings, the intended user, sales channel, target quantity and the features you need.
2. Confirm feasibility. Identify existing parts, proposed changes, artwork requirements and any tooling or printing setup. Record which party approves each stage.
3. Review the sample. Check the function, dimensions, finish, components and package against the written brief. A sample should represent the version you are approving.
4. Freeze the order specification. Confirm the item, color, artwork revision, case pack, inspection criteria, document requests and commercial terms together.
5. Approve production and handoff. Agree how changes are controlled, when inspection evidence is provided and which packing and shipment details must be confirmed before dispatch.

Keep product, packaging and tooling costs separate

A useful toy OEM quote separates the product price from sample work, custom packaging, print setup and any tooling. Ask whether quoted minimums apply per model, color or artwork version. Record tooling ownership, maintenance, permitted use and release terms in the agreement if new tooling is involved.

The terms describe different starting points for development. OEM commonly follows a buyer specification, while ODM commonly starts from a supplier design. The written project scope, ownership and approval process matter more than the label.

What should I send for an OEM toy quotation?

Send a product reference or drawing, quantity per version, destination market, logo files, packaging requirements, requested sample date and the documents you need reviewed. State whether the request changes the product itself or only its presentation.
